On the first post of Psychology of Color in Marketing (read it here in case you missed it), we mentioned we will have 3 segments on this topic, well today is the second part. Properly Using Color Theory.

Take a look at the illustration below. You would see that the color mix on this alleged website are both good and bad.

The Labelled 1 part on the below illustration stands out. It is easy to read and it is not causing eye strain at all. Choosing stark, complimentary colors, creates an easy to read area.

Also Labelled 2 is a great example of choosing contrast colors. Choosing a color scheme where the item is the brightest element of the design reduces eyestrain by focusing a user’s attention.

Now Labelled 3 IS A TERRIBLE Idea. Lack of contrast between item and background will instantly strain user’s eyes. You might be thinking this is an obvious error but actually, we have seen many websites that suffers from this error. We step in and help correct them, applying color contrasts that are more appealing to eyesight but still keeping client’s color branding.

Finally, Labelled 4 speaks for itself. There is nothing more joyful than words written in black and white contrast. Best practice is usually to chose a very light color for the item or text  itself, or vice versa…
